Sacramento-headquartered California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has awarded the Cosumnes Bridge Parent Package to US-based infrastructure company Granite as part of the $48m Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC) contract for the Cosumnes Bridge Replacement Project in California.

Located on State Route (SR) 99, in Elk Grove, California, the Project has been developed in seven phases to allow construction to continue while the design on other improvements is being finalised.

The CMGC contract is said to be the final of the seven contracts of the overall $167m Cosumnes Bridge Replacement Project.

Granite said that dividing the project allows for speedy delivery, which is estimated to be two years ahead of the owner’s anticipated timeline.

The project involves removing and replacing four bridges over the Cosumnes River in addition to replacing two existing railroad overhead and underpass bridges with a single new overhead bridge, which requires partial realignment of the SR-99 southbound.

The scope of work under the contract involves laying out 3.7km of freeway to connect the newly constructed bridges, along with roadway excavation, deck and barrier improvements at Dillard Road Overcrossing and construction of the Eschinger Road/SR-99 interchange.
