The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has appointed Granite as the construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) for about $90m road project in Northern California, US.

The State Route 70 Binney Junction Roadway Rehabilitation and Complete Streets CM/GC project are in Marysville city, Caltrans District 3.

Granite will work closely with Caltrans during the project’s first phase, which is valued at $1.3m.
Meanwhile, the designers of the project will work on the design, constructability, and cost estimation of the project.

Under the contract, Granite will be responsible for the reconstructing existing drainage systems, relocating utilities, roadway widening and profile changes.

The existing railroad structures at the Binney Junction Underpass and Marysville Underpass will also be replaced.

The scope of work also includes relocating an existing finger levee and realigning a portion of the Valley Subdivision and Sacramento Subdivision track alignments.

Granite Construction Sacramento Area chief estimator Colin Crawford said: “This is Granite’s third CM/GC project with Caltrans District 3 since 2018, and further enhances Granite’s portfolio of CM/GC, railroad, and levee work in the California Valley Region.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to continue our collaborative partnership with Caltrans District 3 while providing vital infrastructure improvements to the Marysville community.”

Work on the construction management (CM) portion of the Binney Junction project is anticipated to commence in the first quarter of this year, with the General Contractor (GC) phase expected to start in the first quarter of next year.

In August last year, the Riverside County Transportation Department awarded a $64m contract to Granite for the Jurupa Road Grade Separation project in Jurupa Valley, California.
