A joint venture of Granite and Kraemer North America has secured a construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) contract for the $125m Bay City Bridges Project Michigan, US.

The contract has been awarded by United Bridge Partners (UBP), a private infrastructure company.

Granite said: “CM/GC procurement involves the contractor during the design and planning phases and offers a lower risk profile for both the contractor and the owner while increasing the overall value to project stakeholders.”

The work will involve the rehabilitation of the existing Liberty Bridge and a complete reconstruction and alignment of the Independence Bridge.

Granite said that the two bridges will remain in service through the project.

The design and pre-construction services on the project are already underway, and construction work is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Granite regional vice president Ryan Clark said: “This project supports our geographic expansion and strategic focus on alternate delivery models.

“It also provides growth opportunities for our team members, expands our capabilities in moveable bridge construction and rehabilitation, and reinforces our strong partnership with United Bridge Partners and their mission to repair our national infrastructure by providing privately-funded bridge solutions to public agencies.”

Last month, Granite Construction secured a $101m contract from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to build Segment 4C (Summerland) of the Highway 101 Santa Barbara to Carpinteria project in Southern California.
