Global Infrastructure, a civil engineering contractor, has commenced work on SSEN Transmission’s new storage facility at Claverhouse East Industrial Estate in Dundee, Scotland, UK.

The 7,500m² multimillion-pound facility, along with an identical unit at Inverness Airport Business Park, is intended to help in Scotland’s electricity network expansion and maintenance. 

The contract for designing and constructing these two buildings was secured by Global Infrastructure last year. The Inverness site’s construction first began in August 2023.  

Global Infrastructure managing director David MacDonald said: “We are delighted to commence work in Dundee on what will be a vital building stage in the future build-out and maintenance of the electricity network as part of the government’s drive to net zero.  

“Steelwork for the Inverness building is well advanced and groundworks in Dundee will commence imminently in line with our schedule to deliver both units early next year.”

The sites will feature heavy lifting capabilities, bunded areas for oil-filled equipment, custom storage spaces, and offices with staff welfare areas.  

Additionally, they will include the latest EV charging points and PV installations.
