Gafcon has been appointed to lead the planning and design of the Zizhu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, a 3,200-acre land along the Huangpu River located 28.96km south of the Bund of Shanghai, China.

The mixed-use waterfront project is being developed in three phases that include Purple Bay, Innotown, and Orchid Lake Hotel.

The company has previously led the planning and development of the first two phases of the development that have a combined value of $12bn.

The $265m Orchid Lake Hotel, is a 5-star business-class luxury resort and conference centre along the Huangpu River and will comprise a conference hall, reception area, and workspace, as well as an executive lounge, 360 guest rooms, spa, and gymnasium.

It is located in the Orchid Lake Ecological Community of Zizhu High-tech Zone, adjacent to Orchid Lake in the north and Huangpu River green belt in the south.

The luxury hotel is claimed to be China’s first ever “sail up” hotel with a yacht club providing access from the Huangpu River. It will serve visitors to Zizhu, which is said to be an important technology, science, research and business hub in Shanghai.

Gafcon CEO Bryan Benso said: “China has emerged as a leader in the post Covid-19 pandemic world and has seen hotel occupancy return to its pre-pandemic rates, so we know the time is right to pick up where we left off.

“After a delay because of the pandemic, Gafcon is excited to continue working on this visionary development. The Orchid Lake Hotel will be the next feature in Zizhu’s forward-thinking strategic planning, which incorporates sustainability, health and safety within the fabric of community connectedness.”
