Evernorth and Lamoille Housing Partnership (LHP) have commenced construction on Village Center Apartments, a new affordable housing development in downtown Morrisville, Vermont, the US.

The development will include 24 new energy-efficient affordable apartments for low- and moderate-income residents.

Located on Hutchins Street, the building will include four two-bedroom apartments, 13 one-bedroom apartments and seven studio apartments.

It will also include onsite laundry, outdoor seating, covered bike storage, community gardens and community space.

Evernorth stated that the residents will also have access to a range of recreational activities at the Oxbow and Lamoille Valley Rail Trail.

The company, along with its partner LHP, has worked in collaboration with architecture firm Vermont Integrated Architecture and construction firm Neagley & Chase to design Village Center Apartments with a focus on resident well-being and environmental benefits.

In partnership with Morristown, parking for the residents will be provided in the municipal parking lot across the street.

The companies have raised a total funding of $7.9m from several public and private resources that include the Housing for All Revenue Bond and the federal HOME Program for the new development
The Vermont Housing and Conservation Board has provided more than $2m for the project.

The Vermont Housing Finance Agency, with Housing New England, Fund I as the investor has allocated a significant piece of funding from the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.

The Northwest Regional Planning Commission, Efficiency Vermont and Union Bank have also provided funding for the new project.
