Enel Green Power Chile, a renewable energy subsidiary of Enel Chile, has commenced construction on its 204MW Domeyko solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Chile, South America.

Located in the Antofagasta Region, Chile, the solar power project will involve a total investment of about $164m.

Slated to be completed by July 2021, the Domeyko solar park, spread across 700 hectares of area, will comprise nearly 472,590 bifacial mono-crystalline PV modules.

Enel’s renewable energy subsidiary said that the new project is part of a 2GW renewable energy portfolio which the company seeks to install by 2022, half of which is already under construction.

Once operational, the solar power project will generate approximately 589GWh of power while offsetting 439,000tonnes of CO2 emission.

Enel Green Power CEO and Global Power Generation business line head Salvatore Bernabei said: “With the start of construction of Domeyko, we are able to further establish our renewable footprint in Chile, a Country gifted with a great wealth of energy sources.
