Enel Green Power Espana (EGPE), the renewable subsidiary of Endesa, has commenced construction on its 50MW Los Naranjos photovoltaic (PV) park in Spain.

Located in the town of Carmona, Seville province, the solar farm will be equipped with 128,520 PV panels each with a capacity of 340Wp.

As part of the project, EGPE will also construct nine switching stations, an electric substation as well as a 4.5km long underground cable network.

The solar project, which will entail an investment of €28.2m ($30.5m), is expected to commence operations in late 2020.

Once operational, the facility is expected to generate 10GWh of electricity per year while offsetting around 67,000 tonnes of CO2 emission each year.

Endesa’s unit is also constructing another 50MW Las Corchas PV project in Carmona. With an investment of €30m ($32.5m), the facility has been under construction since the end of last year.

Endesa said that the two projects are claimed to be its biggest PV plant developed in Andalusia till date.

The projects form part of Endesa’s strategic to completely decarbonise its generation mix by 2050 and increase its total installed renewable capacity to 10.2GW by 2022 from 7.4GW in 2019.

Endesa said: “These plants will be built under sustainable engineering criteria, whereby Enel Green Power’s “Sustainable Construction Site” model will be applied.

“This model envisages the installation of PV panels to meet some of the energy needs during the construction works and water-saving measures by installing deposits and rain collection systems.

“Once the works have been completed, both the PV panels and the water-saving equipment will be donated to the town for public use.

“These initiatives have been included as sustainable engineering actions as part of the 2018 Climate Projects by Spain’s Ministry of Ecological Transition (MITECO).”
