France-headquartered Egis has been appointed as the construction management consultant for the Souq Al-Mubarakiya reconstruction project in Kuwait.

This initiative is aimed at revitalising the 120-year-old market. The historic landmark suffered partial damage due to a fire in 2022.

The project is led by Kuwait Finance House (KFH) and will be executed with Alghanim International as the main contractor and Gulf Consult as the design consultant.

KFH chair Hamad Abdulmohsen Al Marzouq said: “We are delighted to celebrate the launch of the reconstruction project for the area damaged in the Al Mubarakiya fire.

“This follows the successful completion and approval of the design phase by the relevant advisory team dedicated to addressing the effects of the incident.”

Egis will be responsible for the reconstruction of 17 buildings and the upgrade of the entire infrastructure network in the area.

This phase follows a predesign and design project management phase, which involved collaboration with architectural and heritage specialists.

The reconstruction aims to adhere to the latest regulations.

Egis Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia country managing director Khaled El Mir said: “Egis brings a long history of technical expertise and project management experience to the Souq Al-Mubarakiya Development project.

“We are committed to collaborating closely with all stakeholders to deliver this significant project to the highest standards, ensuring the revitalised Souq becomes a cherished landmark for generations to come.”

Last year, Egis was contracted for project management consultancy services for the new Kuwait Airways Tower in Qibla.
