EDF Renewables, a subsidiary of EDF Group, Enbridge and wpd, have announced that start of construction on the 500MW French offshore wind farm, Fécamp.
The announcement was made after the consortium partners had closed financing agreements. The 500MW Fécamp offshore wind farm will be located between 13 and 22km from the coast of northwest France and will be powered by 71 wind turbines.

The consortium partners EDF, Enbridge and wpd own 35%, 35% and 30% stakes, respectively in the offshore wind farm project.
Scheduled to begin operations in 2023, the wind farm is being built with an estimated cost of €2bn, of which the majority will be financed through a non-recourse project-level debt.
The wind farm is expected to generate enough clean energy to meet the energy needs of 770,000 French people or more than 60% of the Seine-Maritime department’s population.

The consortium has selected Spanish wind turbine-maker Siemens Gamesa to supply the 71 turbines for the wind farm.
While Bouygues Construction, Saipem and Boskalis will take care of the foundations, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, GE Grid Solutions and SDI will supply the offshore substation for the Fécamp wind farm.
RTE has been given the responsibility of connecting the wind farm from the offshore substation to the coast and then until Normandy’s electricity grid. It will begin onshore works from this month.
