The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has awarded two contracts worth Dh1.16bn ($316.13m) for the Al Meydan Street Development Project, a strategic initiative to enhance the city’s primary road network and accommodate future urban growth.
Scheduled for completion by the end of 2028, the Al Meydan Street Development Project will see the construction of 3,700m of bridges, 17km of new roads, and dedicated cycling tracks to integrate with Dubai’s existing cycling network.

The project will upgrade several intersections and is designed to increase the capacity of north–south traffic corridors by 18%, while reducing travel times from Al Manama Street and Dubai–Al Ain Road to Umm Suqeim Street from 30 minutes to 10 minutes, a reduction of 66%, according to the RTA.
The first contract of the project focuses on upgrading Al Meydan Street from its intersection with Latifa bint Hamdan Street to Umm Suqeim Street and developing Al Marabea’ Street from Dubai Hills to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This includes a new grade-separated interchange at Al Marabea’ and Al Meydan, which will feature four lanes in each direction and bridges totalling 1,600m, raising capacity to 14,400 vehicles per hour.
A direct connection between Al Marabea’ Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and a 700-metre elevated link on Dubai–Al Ain Road to Nad Al Hamar Street, are also part of this phase.
The second contract covers development from First Al Khail Street, through Al Khail Road, to Muscat Street, as well as the construction of approximately 2 kilometres of new surface roads linking Al Meydan Street with Latifa bint Hamdan Street.
Plans include intersection improvements and converting the Al Meydan and Muscat Street intersection into a multi-level, grade-separated interchange, also with capacity for up to 14,400 vehicles per hour.
Cycling infrastructure and underpasses are planned to ensure network continuity and support sustainable travel.
The Al Meydan Street Development Project is expected to benefit residential and development areas, home to over 500,000 people.

“Al Meydan Street is one of Dubai’s key strategic corridors, running parallel to and supporting Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The project will strengthen connectivity across the main road network, provide alternative routes that improve traffic distribution, enhance traffic flow, and increase mobility efficiency between key areas.”
This project is part of RTA’s integrated strategy to develop key road corridors across Dubai, and it complements the ongoing Latifa bint Hamdan Street Development Project.
Together, the two initiatives form an interconnected road network linking major roads such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road, and are intended to boost traffic efficiency, support new developments, and enhance infrastructure readiness for continued population growth.
The Latifa bint Hamdan corridor, now under construction, includes seven bridges and eight tunnels, targeting a capacity of up to 16,000 vehicles per hour and more than 130,000 daily trips.
Both projects are expected to provide alternative routes, improve traffic flow, and strengthen Dubai’s wider transportation network as the city continues to expand.
