The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced the completion of a domestic road rehabilitation project in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro.

It is expected to improve traffic flow, transportation access, and road safety in the region.

The initiative was carried out by the DPWH Southern Mindoro District Engineering Office along Bongabong-Sagana-Roxas-San Aquilino Road.

This project included the repair and reconstruction of a 614m stretch of road, as well as the installation of covered drainage canals to combat frequent flooding.

DPWH Regional Office IV-B director Gerald A Pacanan stated that the project is anticipated to boost the transportation of local goods to adjacent towns and barangays.

Pacanan said: “These road upgrades will address the vehicular traffic and flooding problem in Bongabong and will provide ease of travel for the residents, local farmers, and travellers traversing the newly upgraded road.”

The project, which cost 29.39m pesos ($507,709), was funded through 2023’s General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Meanwhile, the DPWH is constructing a 19.39m pesos multipurpose building in Barangay Tugatog, Malabon City, to serve older residents.

DPWH National Capital Region director Loreta Malaluan stated that the Tugatog Senior Citizens Multipurpose Building Project is 72.34% complete and is expected to be functional by the end of the second quarter of 2024.

DPWH Malabon-Navotas district engineer J Reyes stated that the project aims to replace the current deteriorating two-storey building in the vicinity.

The new three-storey facility, with a floor area of 107.25m², will cater to various needs, including health screenings, wellness programmes, and social activities.

It will have persons with disabilities-friendly comfort rooms, grab bars, wider doors, fire safety systems, and more.

Earlier this month, the DPWH revealed that it is rehabilitating a section of the domestic Concepcion – La Paz Road in Tarlac, Barangay Paludpud.
