Taranaki Regional Council in New Zealand has revealed the design of the new East Stand at the Yarrow Stadium in New Plymouth.
The stadium is being redeveloped as the East and West stands were declared to be earthquake-prone and subsequently closed in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
The East Stand is being replaced with a new stand, with 1,800 seating capacity along with the ability to add further temporary seating for big events.
The flexible ‘double sided’ design of the stand will allow visitors to watch the game on the main pitch and the outer fields.
Slated to open in 2024, the East stand will also have more space to organise events such as conferences and trade shows.
It has been designed to be completely accessible for people with mobility issues and has three spaces in hospitality area along with toilets including gender neutral facilities.

The council has also announced that the overall budget for the project is estimated to rise from around $31m (NZ$50m) to around $43m (NZ$70m) due to increase in cost and supply chain issues because of the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical turmoil.
Taranaki Regional Council chairman David MacLeod noted that the original cost was estimated based on the repair of the TSB Stand, which is now being demolished as the repair was economically feasible.
David MacLeod said: “When the original budget was set, we couldn’t have predicted the world we’re living in today with Covid-19 and the Ukraine-Russia war.
“We know that our community is also feeling the pain of rising prices so we’ve worked hard to mimimise the impact on Taranaki ratepayers and the Yarrow Stadium targeted rate is not changing.”
He also noted that the government has provided $6.14m (NZ$10m) additional funding for the project.
