Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has announced the commencement of main construction works on a new multimillion-dollar upgrade at Darcy Road Public School in Wentworthville within NSW.

This marks the 23rd major public education project initiated since the NSW Labor Government took office a year ago.

The upgrade will facilitate the removal of 21 demountables, making way for new permanent buildings, modern classrooms, a library, an extended car park, and more.

The school hall will also be refurbished, and core facilities will be upgraded to accommodate the growing population in Western Sydney.

NSW Education and Early Learning Deputy Premier and Minister Prue Car said: “I am delighted to see works begin here at Darcy Road Public School – where this school is set to receive a massive boost as we significantly upgrade their facilities.

“Students here have been learning in demountable classrooms for years, and it is fantastic to see Western Sydney children will soon be learning in permanent classrooms.”

A temporary school has been established to support the students during the upgrade.

Over the past year, the NSW government is said to have been addressing the backlog of school infrastructure needs in the state.

This includes the announcement of new public primary schools in Sydney Olympic Park, Nirimba Fields, Tallawong, and Nowra.

It also comprises new secondary schools across the state.

NSW Premier Chris Minns said: “The NSW government is committed to rebuilding the essential services and addressing the school infrastructure backlog.

“This is why we are making a record investment for urgently needed new and upgraded schools across the state, including Darcy Road.”

The latest announcement comes after the state government provided a progress update on the Western Sydney Airport Metro line earlier this year.
