Rush Street Gaming and Portsmouth city officials have broken ground on more than $300m Rivers Casino Portsmouth in Portsmouth, Virginia, the US.
The new gaming and entertainment complex will include a casino, BetRivers Sportsbook, a live entertainment lounge, event centre, premier restaurants, and hotel.

Set to open in early 2023, the new entertainment venue is expected to create around 1,400 construction jobs and 1,300 new permanent jobs in the area.
It is also estimated to generate about $16.3m in new annual tax revenue for the Portsmouth city.
Portsmouth mayor Shannon Glover said: “This is truly an exciting time for the citizens of Portsmouth — particularly as it relates to job growth and the overall economic vitality of our great city.

By GlobalDataRivers Casino Portsmouth will be the company’s seventh ground-up casino development located at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Freedom Avenue in Portsmouth.
The company currently operates full-service destination casinos in New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.
Rush Street Gaming CEO Greg Carlin said: “Today marks a significant milestone for Rush Street Gaming and for the Commonwealth of Virginia. We’re excited to expand our Rivers Casino brand family and help launch the state’s casino industry right here in the City of Portsmouth.
S.B. Ballard Construction Company and Yates Construction are collaborating as the general contractors for the new entertainment complex.
DMAC Architecture has been appointed as the interior designer; Kimley-Horn as the engineering consultants; Jeffrey Beers International as the primary interior designer; and Klai Juba Wald as the architect of record for the project.
