Hydrogen fuel cell manufacturer Plug Power has commenced construction of a $290m green hydrogen plant in New York, the US.
The plant will be located at the Western New York Science, Technology and Advanced Manufacturing Park in Alabama, Genesee County.
The project includes construction of an 450MW electricity substation and green hydrogen fuel production facility.
The company is also providing funds for the construction of the new electric substation, which will power the new hydrogen production facility and allow future growth opportunities at the STAMP site.
Located at the centre of New York’s research, and workforce training hubs, STAMP is a 1,250-acre mega site, which will include renewables manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, biopharma manufacturing, as well as other industries.

The new hydrogen plant will produce 45 metric tonnes of green liquid hydrogen per day and is claimed to become the largest green hydrogen production facility in North America.

By GlobalDataOnce operational, the facility will produce green hydrogen fuel, which will be used to replace the fossil fuels in freight-transportation as well as logistics.
This will also support New York’s aim to achieve carbon-neutrality by 2050.

“Plug Power’s new facility will be the largest plant in North America producing green hydrogen, advancing our ambitious green energy goals as we work toward a cleaner future.”
