US-based renewable energy company Pattern Energy Group has commenced construction of its 150MW Lanfine Wind project in Alberta, Canada.

The project is being developed by Pattern Canada and will represent approximately C$350m ($281.1m) investment in Alberta.

It will be located to the south and west of the town of Oyen, Alberta in Special Area 3 within the Municipal District of Acadia.

The Lanfine Wind project will feature 35 units of Vestas V150-4.2MW wind turbines, which will be delivered in 4.3MW operating mode.

It is anticipated to commence full commercial operations by the end of 2022.

Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough power to supply electricity to around 25,000 households in Alberta per year.

The wind project is expected to create up to 200 construction jobs.

Pattern Energy CEO Mike Garland said: “The Lanfine Wind project is bringing substantial economic and environmental benefits to Alberta by creating hundreds of new jobs, generating millions in revenue locally, and establishing strong community benefits.

“We are thrilled to be expanding into Alberta and look forward to growing our footprint in the province, as we continue to expand our portfolio of renewable facilities across Canada.”

Pattern Canada brought 11 wind power projects, including Lanfine Wind project, into construction and operation across five provinces over the last decade.

Last year, Pattern Energy Group secured financing to commence construction on the 105MW Phoenix solar project in Fannin County, Texas.

ING Capital provided construction and term project financing, while RBC Community Investments (RBC), a subsidiary of RBC, provided tax equity for the project.
