Non-profit American academic medical centre Cleveland Clinic has broken ground on new hospital in Mentor, Ohio in the US.

Being built with an investment of approximately $80m, the future site of Cleveland Clinic Mentor Hospital will serve patients in Lake and northern Geauga counties and surrounding communities.

Planned for opening in early 2023, the Mentor Hospital will be managed by Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital to enable seamless access and staffing between facilities.

Designed to adapt or expand in future to meet community needs, the new hospital will comprise 34 inpatient/observation rooms, up to 25 outpatient rooms, 19 emergency department beds, four operating rooms and 12 pre-/post-anesthesia care beds.

Cleveland Clinic managing director, CEO and president Tom Mihaljevic said: “Today marks the start of a new hospital concept, based on the needs of the community.

“Our goal is to serve patients at Mentor Hospital, while also making the entire health system available for additional care when needed.”
