Willmott Dixon has announced that the Cross Keys Homes’ (CKH) housing project in Peterborough, UK, has topped out, marking a major construction milestone.

The £70m ($88.64m) CKH Indigo project received £12.5m in grant funding from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority.

The project, which is being built by Willmott Dixon, will provide 315 affordable homes, including one, two, and three-bedroom apartments and duplexes.

Additionally, two commercial retail units will feature in the completed project.

The topping-out ceremony, hosted by CKH, was attended by various stakeholders, including CKH group chair Shelagh Grant, CKH CEO Claire Higgins, Willmott Dixon director Dan Doyle, and more.

Representatives from Drees & Sommer, Corstorphine & Wright Architects, HLM, William H Brown, and others also attended the ceremony, witnessing the progress made.

Higgins said: “It’s a challenging site being built in challenging times and they [CKH’s partners] have been absolutely superb from day one always working positively with us to iron out any problems whether that is the unpredictable weather or challenging ground conditions.”

Doyle commented: “It was fantastic to celebrate the topping-out point of this flagship regeneration project with key stakeholders and project partners.

“Many towns and cities are currently going through transformations. We’re pleased to be playing a part in Peterborough city centre’s transformation and working with Cross Keys Homes to help provide high-quality, affordable housing.”

Dixon stated that it intends to follow a specific construction approach for the project, with approximately 63% of its value to be derived from premanufactured elements.

Off-site manufacturing techniques are being employed to construct components such as light-gauge steel frames, brick slips, and bathroom pods.

These methods are anticipated to reduce embodied carbon emissions and ensure the project remains on schedule.

This month, Dixon also announced that the Chiswick Health Centre project in London, UK, reached a major milestone with its topping-out ceremony.

Hounslow Council and the National Health Service selected Dixon to deliver the £40m health centre last April.
