The first sod has been turned on a new five-storey car park at Campbelltown Station in Sydney, Australia, marking the start of construction on the project.
Federal Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King initiated the construction alongside Campbelltown’s mayor George Greiss and Federal Member for Macarthur Mike Freelander.

Arenco has been awarded the car park upgrade contract.
The new car park will include 508 spaces, lift access, and 14 secure bicycle parking areas.
It will also incorporate sustainable initiatives such as electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities, a rooftop solar panel array with battery storage, and rainwater tanks.
Greiss said: “Campbelltown Station is among the busiest transport hubs in the Macarthur region, servicing residents from Campbelltown and beyond.

The project has received a boost with an additional A$2.91m ($1.91m) in funding from the Australian Government following its 2023 Infrastructure Investment Programme Strategic Review.
The total cost of the A$25m project is fully funded by the government, with the local council owning the land.
Freelander said: “The Australian Government is firmly committed to supporting public transport use through expanded park-and-ride facilities for the Macarthur region, with Campbelltown Station serving as the premier train station for much of south-west Sydney.
“That is why we are fully funding this project – with the end goal to contribute to reduced congestion around the Campbelltown CBD and arterial roads.”
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
A provisional car park has been opened adjacent to the existing building to provide additional parking during the construction period.
