The Western Australia (WA) Government has announced a A$3m ($1.99m) investment for the upgrade of the Burswood Park playground. 

It is aimed at enhancing the playground’s appeal and draw more visitors to the area.  

This initiative is part of the upcoming 2024-25 State Budget and will focus on replacing the ageing infrastructure with a modern play area suitable for a broader age range. 

The existing playground is said to have surpassed its expected lifespan of 28 years.  

The new development will prioritise accessibility and modern safety features, including an appropriate safety enclosure, to ensure a secure environment for all visitors.

Detailed design plans are yet to be finalised. 

WA Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia: “The Burswood Park playground has proven to be a popular location with families for close to three decades. What was once a destination play area is now ageing making maintenance more challenging and replacement parts harder to come by. 

“Replacing the current playground with a contemporary design using modern materials will reinvigorate the area and encourage more families to visit the precinct.” 

The playground replacement is in line with Burswood Park Board’s long-term vision of creating an active community space that fosters social connections.  

The latest announcement comes just after the WA Government revealed plans to replace the Congdon Street Bridge, a link between Swanbourne and Claremont in the state.  

It is a three-year project, which entails building a new structure with more clearance, as well as an enhanced shared route that runs parallel to the train line between Perth and Fremantle.
