Builders FirstSource, a supplier of building products and prefabricated components, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire US-based Alpine Lumber.

Founded in 1963 in Englewood, Colorado, Alpine Lumber has grown into a 100% employee-owned company.

It operates 21 locations, serving homebuilders and contractors with a wide range of products, including prefabricated trusses, wall panels, and millwork.

Alpine reported trailing 12 months sales of approximately $500m, as of November 2024.

The acquisition is expected to enhance Builders FirstSource’s market reach and product offerings, particularly in Colorado and northern New Mexico.

Hamid Taha, CEO of Alpine, will stay on during the transition period to support the successful integration of Alpine with Builders FirstSource in Colorado and northern New Mexico.

Taha said: “This transaction rewards the long history of dedication by Alpine’s employee owners and positions the combined business to provide a wider range of product categories and superior service to our customers.”

The transaction will be funded through existing cash and credit facilities and is expected to close early in the first quarter of 2025, pending customary closing conditions.

Builders FirstSource president and CEO Peter Jackson said: “This acquisition aligns with our strategic pillar to deploy capital to high-growth investments, and it enhances our footprint in our West Division.

“The complementary nature of our businesses and shared cultures of delivering exceptional customer service will provide significant benefits to our customers, employees, and shareholders.”

Advisors involved in the transaction include Class VI Partners and Davis Graham for Alpine, and Rothschild & Co, Centerview Partners, and Alston Bird for Builders FirstSource.

Builders FirstSource, headquartered in Irving, Texas, operates in 43 states with approximately 580 locations, providing a wide range of building products and services.
