Construction services provider Bowmer + Kirkland has commenced construction on new government office hub in Peterborough, the UK.

The new office building, dubbed Fletton Quays hub, is part of a £120m regeneration programme of the Fletton Quays site that is led by Peterborough Investment Partnership and site developer Bride Hall Developments.

Upon completion in 2022, the Fletton Quays hub in Peterborough city centre will house nearly 1,000 civil servants from HM Passport Office and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra).

The UK government said that the new site is part of the its Hub Programme to move thousands of civil servants out of central London, to improve opportunity and level up across the country.

So far, the government’s Hub Programme has seen the development of 17 office hubs in areas including Glasgow, Belfast, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Bristol.

The aim of the programme is to relocate 60,000 civil servants from existing office locations, to modern, multi-departmental workplaces.
