Royal Boskalis Westminster (Boskalis), a Dutch marine infrastructure services company, has secured two installation orders, including a floating wind farm and a suspension bridge.

The first project involves the transportation and installation of five floating wind turbines for the Kincardine floating wind farm off the coast of Aberdeen in Scotland.

The order was placed by Cobra Wind International, for which the company will transport and install floating wind turbines 15km off the coast.

Each turbine will generate about 9.5MW of energy and will be anchored at a depth between 60 and 80m. It will be the first floating wind project for Boskalis.

Boskalis will use its BOKA Falcon, a heavy anchor handling tug (AHT) vessel for the job in this month.

In the meantime, the floating foundations will be transported from Ferrol in Spain to Rotterdam, for which the company will use its Fjord as a semi-submersible barge.

In Rotterdam, the wind turbines will be installed on the foundations and they will be towed to the wind farm site. Besides BOKA Falcon and Fjord, Boskalis also plans to deploy three of its AHTs for the project.

The second project was ordered by DSLY, a consortium of consortium of the South Korean Daelim and SK Group and the Turkish partners Limak Holding and Yapı Merkezi.

The project includes the installation of bridge sections of the 4.6km long Çanakkale 1915 Bridge in Southwest Turkey. For the project, Boskalis will deploy its floating sheerleg crane Asian Hercules III for lifting and installing the sections.

An AHT of the company will also accompany in the installation activities, which are expected to take place in 2021.

Last year, Boskalis had already participated in the bridge construction by installing the foundations of the bridge pylons along with other lifting and transporting steel and concrete bridge elements.

The Dutch marine services company stated that its versatility in the field of offshore transport and installation work and its wide array of specialised equipment has been decisive factors in the two selections.
