Besix, a Belgian consortium group, has secured a €100m contract for the development of the Saint-Denis Pleyel station, which is part of the Grand Paris Express.

The construction and finishing work contract was awarded by Société du Grand Paris on the station located north of Paris.

The contract includes works to develop the Saint-Denis Pleyel station, covering an area of 34,000m² spread across nine levels, four of which will be below ground.

As per the contract, Besix will develop the station itself along with four separate underground constructions 800m apart, three service infrastructures for passenger safety, ventilation and smoke extraction of the tunnels including Ouvrage Cachin, Ouvrage des Etoiles and Ouvrage des Acrobates along with a system to reverse the direction of the trains at Ouvrage Finot.

The entire project is expected to take 53 months, 10 of which are claimed to involve mobilising to prepare for coordination with both the civil engineering works and the equipment works packages including rails and catenary.

The equipment work is being implemented by the consortium Eiffage, Razel-Bec and TSO.

The work is expected to be completed in time for the 2024 Olympic Games as the station will serve as one of the main Olympic venues.

Besix France commercial manager René Jordens said: “The contract we won to develop the station is the result of the high-quality work our Engineering Department and Business Development teams have done throughout the tender process.

“This involved coming up with cutting-edge solutions to optimise the project in line with the client’s objectives. The work also helped Besix establish relationships of trust with the general contractor, Kengo Kuma and Egis-Tractebel, and the client, Société du Grand Paris.”

Besix France director Andres Penaloza said: “BESIX Group takes particular pride in building the iconic Saint-Denis Pleyel station, which is very important for the Grand Paris. Winning this public-sector tender against the backdrop of the Grand Paris underlines that BESIX has firm foundations and demonstrates our technical capacity in France.”
