Gammon Construction, a 50/50 joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Asian-based conglomerate Jardine Matheson, has won a HK$12.88bn (about £1.27bn) contract to expand Terminal 2 at Hong Kong International Airport.
The four-year contract has been awarded by the Airport Authority Hong Kong. Under the contract, Gammon will expand the main Terminal 2 building and construct interconnecting bridges.
The Hong Kong-based company will also deliver mechanical and electrical works as well as associated viaducts and roads as part of the contract.
Balfour Beatty stated that the expansion project forms part of Hong Kong International Airport’s Three-runway System project, which is said to accommodate both arrivals and departures from one terminal and improve the passenger capacity.
Balfour Beatty Group CEO Leo Quinn said: “This award marks Gammon’s second significant contract for the Airport Authority Hong Kong this year and the largest single contract ever awarded to Gammon.
“Through leveraging wide-ranging engineering expertise and offsite and modular construction approaches, Gammon has secured a material share of the Hong Kong market which continues to look favourable with significant infrastructure opportunities ahead.”
