Ask Real Estate and BAM Construction have been selected by UK-based housing association Home Group to build a new head office in Newcastle city centre.
Designed by Ryder Architecture, the new 70,000ft2 building will be constructed in Strawberry Lane, next to the St James’ Park football stadium.
The six-storey building, which secured planning permission earlier this year, will accommodate close to 700 of Home Group’s administrative and customer service centre staff. Home Group currently employs 2,600 people.
Work on the site is scheduled to commence by Ask in early autumn 2020, with completion planned by early summer 2022.
BAM North East construction director Tony Fitzgerald said: “The new head office will play a significant role in Home Group’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
“Not only will be the building adhere to the latest sustainable practices, the relocation from North Tyneside to Newcastle City Centre will reduce the organisation’s environmental impact in other ways.

By GlobalData“We are working up a range of plans and offers to encourage colleagues to move to more sustainable modes of transport as part of our move, something we are receiving excellent support with from the transport team at Newcastle City Council.”
The new head office, which is expected to create about 400 jobs during the construction phase, will serve as a support hub for the city’s voluntary sector, BAM noted.
Joe Cook, Executive Director of Development at Home Group, said: “The sustainability of the building, in particular, is extremely important.
“This is a highly significant project for us – one that benefits a wide range of stakeholders, including our colleagues, our customers, the voluntary sector, the city council and the city centre businesses.”
In May 2020, BAM Construction was selected as construction partner by the University Hospital’s Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) to upgrade health facilities in Bristol, UK.
