UK-based property developer Argent has secured planning consent from Birmingham City Council for Octagon residential tower at the Paradise redevelopment project in Birmingham, the UK.

Octagon residential tower is the latest phase of the Paradise redevelopment project, which is being delivered by Paradise Circus Limited Partnership (PCLP), a private-public joint venture with Birmingham City Council.

The new 155m tall 49-storey residential tower will feature up to 370 new build to rent (BtR) homes, which will be a mix of one-, two- and three-bed homes, including affordable homes. It will also include communal space and resident amenities at entrance level.

Plans for the Octagon residential tower were first revealed in May last year.

The planning permission for new residential tower, which was designed by Glenn Howells Architects, follows completion of the first phase of Paradise scheme that includes One Chamberlain Square and Two Chamberlain, along with a new public realm across the estate, including Chamberlain Square.

One Centenary Way, a new 13-storey, 280,000ft² building, is claimed to be the next commercial building at Paradise and the first part of second phase of the development, which is currently under construction.

The other building, Three Chamberlain Square, is now going through a detailed design competition and a planning application is expected to be submitted later this year.

Paradise Development Manager Argent regional director Rob Groves said: “Octagon forms an integral part of Paradise, creating jobs, promoting skills, and providing much-needed new homes for the people of Birmingham in an exemplary setting.

“After the completion of phase one of the development earlier this year, we are now moving ahead with a number of new buildings at Paradise, reflecting a massive vote of confidence in Birmingham and the regional economy’s recovery from the Covid pandemic.”
