UAE-based developer Arada has secured the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure approval for London Place, a 33-storey residential scheme in Campsie, Sydney, marking its first project approval in Australia.

Designed by Woods Bagot, the development will feature 156 apartments, including 18 units legally designated as affordable housing.

The unit mix spans two, three, and four-bedroom layouts alongside sub-penthouse and penthouse residences on the upper floors.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2029. Arada puts the project’s gross development value at Dh560m ($152m).

The scheme was recognised as a State Significant Development by the NSW Housing Delivery Authority, providing a streamlined planning route for major housing projects.

Approval was secured alongside a rezoning of the site and took less than four months, according to Arada.

London Place is the first of five projects the developer says it is planning for the area. Arada entered the Australian market in 2024 and has since assembled a pipeline of over 6,000 homes, it said.

The development will include shared facilities such as a lounge, private dining room, music room, gym, covered barbecue terrace, lap pool, spa, sauna and outdoor seating.

Campsie is undergoing redevelopment ahead of the expected opening of Campsie Metro Station.

Arada said the station would allow residents to reach Sydney’s central business district by metro in under 20 minutes.

Arada group chief executive Ahmed Alkhoshaibi said: “When we look at where to build, we are drawn to places with genuine potential: communities that are on the cusp of something special, where the right investment at the right moment can make a genuine difference.

“Campsie is exactly that kind of community, and London Place is the first of five projects we are planning for Sydney’s Inner Southwest region, which together represent a long-term commitment to the area. Our ambition in Australia is significant and strategic, and this approval gives us real momentum as we bring our broader pipeline forward.”

The company’s global development portfolio includes more than 70,000 homes, spanning the UAE, UK, Australia and Syria, with a combined project pipeline valued at Dh171bn ($46.56bn).
