US-based technology firm Apple has opened its newest store, Apple Tower Theatre, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles (LA) in Southern California, US.
Designed by Apple teams and Foster + Partners, the store creates an active presence on Broadway and bolsters one of LA’s most historic movie theatres.
It is Apple’s 26th location in greater LS.
Originally home to LA’s first theatre, the new store had undergone a full seismic upgrade to thoughtfully preserve and restore the theatre’s beauty and grandeur.
The new space is said to be a significant part of the larger urban regeneration of downtown LA, Apple noted.
Moreover, the new design restores the distinctive clock tower and exterior terracotta facades to enhance historic interiors. It also has improved marquees and the Broadway Street elevation.

By GlobalDataFoster + Partners studio head Stefan Behling said: “Apple Tower Theatre will be a new beacon of optimism and resilience for the city and a vote of confidence in Downtown LA.
“The design brings back the romance and excitement of the birth of cinema, recreating the idea of the ‘place to be’. The exquisite detailing of the interior has been painstakingly restored.”
The new store features an immaculately restored grand staircase to access the upper levels, while the lobby paves the way to the main theatre hall at ground level. The theatre hall has been transformed into a majestic display area.
Additionally, the building’s historic plaster detailing on the walls and ceiling has been restored and enhanced.
The team also reinterpreted the central dome of the theatre’s ceiling with a fresco.
