Aerion Supersonic, a US-based aircraft manufacturer, is set to build its $300m headquarters at Orlando Melbourne International Airport (MLB) in Florida, US.

At its global headquarters, the firm will manufacture supersonic aircraft, a business jet that can fly at more than 1,000mph.

Located at the northwest corner of MLB, the development known as Aerion Park is located on more than 60-acre site.

It will feature the firm’s global headquarters and integrated campus for research, design, build, and maintenance of its AS2 SSBJ.

Haskell, a Florida-based architecture, engineering, construction and consulting firm, has been selected to provide programming and conceptual design development services for the project.

Construction on the campus is set to begin later this year and the production of the AS2 supersonic aircraft is expected to commence in 2023.

Haskell Aviation & Aerospace Manufacturing division leader Greg Akers said: “Haskell is thrilled that Aerion has selected Florida’s Space Coast and we wish them every success in their new endeavour. This project will help revolutionize global mobility.

“As an integrated A/E/C, Haskell provides value-based solutions and stands ready to support customers in the development of time-sensitive cap-ex programs.”

Aerion Park is expected to create 675 new jobs in the region and attract aerospace suppliers within the supersonic technology sector, additional roles for scientists, designers, engineers and aircraft builders.

Designed with the ability to accept 100% biofuels, AS2 is claimed to be the first commercial aircraft to fly at supersonic speeds over land with no noise on the ground.

The eco-friendly AS2 business jet can fly at a speed of Mach 1.4, or about 1,065mph.

In February this year, Aerion has partnered with The Boeing to develop the AS2 and advance the supersonic market.

In 2018, the aircraft manufacturer said that GE Aviation’s Affinity supersonic engine will power the AS2.
