AECOM Hunt, a part of the infrastructure firm Aecom, and US-based design-build firm Clayco have added Bowa Construction to its joint venture team to deliver construction management services for $8.5bn O’Hare 21 Project.

The O’Hare 21 Project is touted to be the biggest expansion project in O’Hare International Airport’s 60-year history.

It will upgrade the facility by offering travellers more gates, better amenities, and increased travel options to streamline and enhance their experience.

Aecom said that the addition of Bowa Construction boots the joint venture via its previous experience at O’Hare.

Bowa Construction, as an African American-owned business, builds upon the joint venture’s commitment to providing capacity building, contracting, and workforce opportunities for diversified firms.

Bowa Construction president and CEO Nosa Ehimwenman said: “We are very excited about this partnership with AECOM Hunt and Clayco on the transformation of O’Hare.

“The O’Hare 21 Project is giving our organisation the platform to extend our aviation expertise in a significant way. This opportunity is also a clear representation of equity, alliance, experience, and inclusion, which are driving forces behind this partnership.”

The ongoing O’Hare 21 project will expand travel options by adding the gate capacity, minimise security wait times with new security screening checkpoints that integrate the latest screening technology.

It will enhance the screening and sorting of passenger baggage by replacing baggage handling systems and reduce airfield congestion and ground delays by enhancing aircraft parking positions and capabilities.

AECOM Hunt COO for Central Region Jason Kopp said: “We’re extremely proud to work alongside Clayco and Bowa to play a role in the transformation of O’Hare into an international hub primed to meet the needs of the 21st century.

“We’re thrilled to bring our proven expertise to this team, together implementing the highest standards of safety and quality to deliver the airport Chicagoans and world travellers deserve.”
