The American Community School of Abu Dhabi (ACS) has broken ground on its new six-hectare campus on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The new innovative and sustainable campus will provide more personalised, collaborative and innovative learning environment and advance education in the region.

It will be situated 400 meters from New York University of Abu Dhabi (NYUAD).

Designed by architectural firm Broadway-Malyan, the campus will double the size ACS’s current site and will grow to serve nearly 1,600 students per year.

It will have a greenhouse in a fully equipped science wing, a 650-seat professional theatre as well as an expansive indoor-outdoor art studio and gallery.

The campus will also feature design-technology labs focused on robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and virtual reality.

It will also include an athletic complex which will have three full-sized indoor basketball courts, a six-lane running track, two swimming pools, a FIFA-sized football pitch, and a wellness centre for social and emotional health.

ACS stated that the new campus’ design is expected to achieve an Estidama Pearl 3 rating. This will also allow the school to integrate technology and sustainability into its curriculum.

ACS superintendent Monique Flickinger said: “Our new facility provides the space for greater innovation, creativity and collaboration to prepare our students - the leaders of tomorrow - to thrive as global citizens in an increasingly complex and rapidly-changing world.

“We are committed to sharing our educational learnings and vision with other schools and organizations to do our part in advancing the UAE as an international educational hub.”
