
The global construction industry noticed a 4.2% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Honeywell International’s 9.58% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The construction industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.14% when compared with July 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 4.92% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, down 0.06% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 6.06% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 16.63% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 44.14% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in August 2022, a 7.48% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 24.94% in August 2022, down 15.17% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 12.76% share in August 2022, a growth of 8.91% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 7.19% share in August 2022 and a drop of 6.36% over July 2022.
Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 23.4% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
Honeywell International posted 569 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a rise of 13.57% over the previous month, followed by Larsen & Toubro with 271 jobs and a 10.56% decline. Komatsu with 256 IT jobs and AECOM with 175 jobs, recorded a 36.9% growth and a 660.87% rise, respectively, while Caterpillar recorded a 7.87% rise with 137 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 50.81% share, which marked a 20.11% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 24.44%, registering a 1.02% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 22.84% share and a 9.29% drop over July 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 1.16% and a month-on-month rise of 68.29%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.76%, registering a 23.73% decrease over the previous month.
