The global construction industry noticed a 2.1% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by Honeywell International’s 6.78% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.54% when compared with April 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.24% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, up 0.03% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 9.89% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 23.83% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 43.73% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in May 2022, a 9.51% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.91% in May 2022, down 56.91% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 10.41% share in May 2022, a growth of 14.97% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with an 8.57% share in May 2022 and a drop of 5.35% over April 2022.

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 10.78% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

Honeywell International posted 280 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 8.2% over the previous month, followed by Black & Veatch with 271 jobs and a 92.2% growth. Komatsu with 259 IT jobs and General Electric with 210 jobs, recorded a 33.51% growth and a 24.73% drop, respectively, while Vinci recorded a 9.3% rise with 141 job postings during May 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 58.18% share, which marked a 38.66% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 23.45%, registering a 4.42% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.97% share and a 10.47% drop over April 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.7% and a month-on-month drop of 9.38%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.7%, registering a 38.3% decrease over the previous month.
