The granted patent (Publication Number: US11969785B2) discloses a sliding closure for a metallurgical vessel with a tapping hole for casting metal melts or slags. The sliding closure comprises a slider housing that is fastened to the vessel and a movable closure plate that moves within the slider housing to open and close the tapping hole. Notably, the sliding closure exclusively consists of the movable closure plate without a fixed-location closure plate. The movable closure plate is directly pressed onto a sliding surface around the tapping hole of a casing block in the vessel and is pressed by tensioning elements.

Furthermore, the sliding closure includes a slide trolley that is movably guided in a carrier frame of the slider housing along with the movable closure plate. The slide trolley, when moved outside the effective working area of the movable closure plate, is released from tensioning and pivoted out of and into the carrier frame by a pivot device. The tensioning elements are formed by two carrier frames arranged symmetrically on a parallel axis at the slider housing, which tension each carrier frame against the slide trolley. Additionally, the sliding plate can be equipped with a replaceable insert made of metal, graphite, or refractory material, and the sliding surface for the movable closure plate is formed by a casing block integrated into a housing cladding and made from copper or refractory material. The alignment of the tapping hole, slide plate, and casting or draining sleeve in relation to the sliding device of the movable closure plate is perpendicular or at a 60° angle.
