
The global construction industry noticed a 3.6% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2021 over the previous month, led by China Merchants Property Operation & Service’s 8.31% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The construction industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.32% when compared with July 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.56% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in August 2021, up 0.08% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2021 were 2.19% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 4.25% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 49.69% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in August 2021, a 5.55% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 19.54% in August 2021, down 28.38% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 15.01% share in August 2021, a growth of 1% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 7.21% share in August 2021 and a drop of 22.19% over July 2021.
Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in August 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 35.1% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during August 2021 over July 2021.
China Merchants Property Operation & Service posted 279 IT jobs in August 2021 and registered a rise of 136.44% over the previous month, followed by Black & Veatch with 265 jobs and a 28.18% decline. Manulife US Real Estate Investment Trust with 163 IT jobs and CBRE Group with 124 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a 41.23% drop, respectively, while NANA RegionalInc recorded a flat growth with 112 job postings during August 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in August 2021 with a 53.02% share, which marked a 16.82% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 26.42%, registering a 57.83% month-on-month growth. Europe was the third leading region with a 19.3% share and a 10.99% drop over July 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.8% and a month-on-month rise of 80%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.45%, registering a 21.05% decrease over the previous month.
