No less than 64 heads of state from around the world set foot on Brintons Axminster carpet at the end of September when the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) was officially opened in Tuwal, near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The construction of the expansive university campus is the most prestigious building project in Saudi Arabia for a number of years and Brintons’ global reputation as the best designer and manufacturer of woven Axminster carpet meant it was recruited by the project specifiers to supply 5,600m² of carpet to various auditorium buildings on the site.

KAUST requested contemporary designs that were simple and attractive, and the chosen Axminster specification had to guarantee excellent performance qualities – a requirement that comes as standard with all Brintons carpets thanks to the company’s vast manufacturing skills and knowledge.

The chosen designs were generated jointly between Brintons’ designers in the UK and the USA, while the installation was finalised by Brintons’ nominated distributor in Saudi Arabia.

Brintons commercial sales director, Jon Stone, said: “It’s a tremendous honour for a British-based company like Brintons to be supplying Axminster carpet for such a high profile project that has really captured the imagination of the people of Saudi Arabia, and in particular King Abdullah.

“Businesses are only recruited to work on prestigious projects like this if they are genuinely considered the best in their field. Our involvement with the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology is testament to the hard work that Brintons’ personnel worldwide put into making sure our product and service offering is the best in the marketplace.”

Now it has officially opened its doors, KAUST welcomes graduate level students from all over the world to study disciplines that include energy and environment, water desalination, industrial biotechnology, and scientific computing.
