With less than a year until the start of the Olympics and all six permanent world class venues now complete, the London Olympic Park is now on track to deliver a truly spectacular show in 2012.

This British success story has been made possible by the work of thousands of companies who have won contracts to deliver products and services on this high profile project and include DORMA, the global market leader of door controls, automatics, glass and movable walls.

With careful consideration to the specification of every element used on the massive site, (which will have hundreds of thousands of visitors passing through its doors every day), only products that met the high standards of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) were specified.

In order to provide reliable and efficient closing of doors throughout major venues, high quality door controls from DORMA were specified for their compact and elegant design.

To ensure that the door controls matched the modern vision of the entire Olympic Park, DORMA provided closers for venues such as the Velodrome, Basketball and Handball Arenas, Aquatics Centre as well as the Athletes Village, Media Centre car park and the Olympic Stadium link bridges.

Designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the £269m Aquatics Centre forms a majestic gateway to the Olympic Park. With considerable footfall expected, and visitors of all ages, it was imperative that the building’s internal and external doors provided safe, secure and reliable access. Due to their constant use, products with proven performance were essential. A range of versatile, robust and industry leading products from DORMA, including floor springs BTS 75 and BTS 80, door closers TS 71, TS 73 and TS 92 and concealed cam-action door closers ITS 96 were specified to match this world class design.

Elsewhere DORMA AD 4000 panic hardware has been supplied to the stunning Hopkins’ designed Velodrome as well as on the emergency exits to the five link bridges that will provide access for the spectators visiting the Olympic Stadium; located in the south of the Olympic Park on an ‘island’ site, they are surrounded by waterways on three sides.

Safe, reliable and robust, the DORMA AD 4000 is a full width touch bar and is a tried and tested solution which is ideal for such a heavily trafficked situation. The product is third party tested and CE Marked to BS EN 1125, the harmonised European standard for panic exit devices.

For the Handball and Basketball Arenas as well as Media Centre car park, DORMA TS 92 and TS 93 door closers were specified to meet all security, health and safety requirements and compliance. Ideal for heavily trafficked buildings, these cam action door closers were chosen due to the minimal resistance throughout the opening and closing cycle, thus making it a much easier and safer door operation. These easy to use and stylish closers have a built in slide arm and are fully adjustable.

Completing this massive project, a range of DORMA door controls including TS 68, TS 72, TS 90, TS 91 were used throughout the Athletes Village which will be home to 17,000 athletes and officials during the games. Tested and approved to EN 1154, these door controls provide exceptional performance, durability and versatility.

“DORMA is pleased to be working with our dedicated team of specialist hardware distributors including Harbrine, Franchi, Aspex, Gatcliff, John Planck, Yannedis, Bellsure and Build Centre on the delivery of the Olympic site,” commented Philip Jones from DORMA UK. “DORMA products will perform their job admirably and are commensurate with the high quality aspirations of the Olympic Delivery Authority.”~

The Olympic Village presents the pinnacle of world class design, engineering and construction. Specification of DORMA products reflects their market leading position and suitability for the most prestigious of projects.
