Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) has opened a new home in Melbourne called 41X at the 41 Exhibition Street.
Designed by Lyons Architecture and developed by AIA, the new 22-storey commercial tower houses AIA’s Melbourne offices, including the Victorian Chapter, which is over five stories.

The new tower located at the corner of Exhibition Street and Flinders Lane was designed as a public hub for architecture, accommodating 15 other clients and tenants, including an Architext bookshop, a seminar space and a café.
Australia governor general Quentin Bryce said that 41X shows how private and not-for-profit organisations can have a positive impact on the development of cities by creating commercial buildings of such type.
"With this building, the Institute is strongly reinforcing the value of architects and architecture to the sustainable growth of our community, tangibly fulfilling its mission of ‘making the world a better place through architecture," Bryce said.
Work on the project started in 2006 with a feasibility study for the site, followed by the selection of Hassell as an architect for the fit-out of the five AIA-occupied levels.
