The Penn State Board of Trustees Committee on Finance, Business and Capital Planning has given its endorsement to the design and construction of a new lacrosse stadium at the existing lacrosse field, adjacent to the Multi-Sport Facility on the University Park campus of Pennsylvania State University.

The plan is designed by Moody Nolan of Columbus, Ohio, and APArchitects of Boalsburg.

PJ Dick of Pittsburgh will build the project, which is estimated to cost $8.4m.

If approved by the full board, the early phase of Panzer Stadium project is likely to commence later this month. Completion of the project is expected before the fall 2018 semester.

In May, Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics announced $3.55m in gifts for a new lacrosse stadium on the University Park campus.

Ken Panzer, a 1982 Penn State graduate, and his business partner at Douglas Emmett, Jordan Kaplan, made a commitment to gift $3.55m to commence construction work.

This project is expected to transform the current field into a stadium with world-class facilities. Featuring an expanded stadium-style seating, the stadium will be able to accommodate up to 1,300 people, have more accessible bathrooms and a ticket office, a press box above the new seating with full broadcasting capabilities, and a multi-purpose room overlooking the field that could be used for a variety of lacrosse-related events.

Additional gifts totalling $2m for the project came from Penn State lacrosse alumni and donors. The total amount gifted for the project has touched  $5.6m.
