The Department of Public Works and Highways in the Philippines (DPWH) has undertaken repair works of the San Juanico Bridge to maintain its structural integrity.
This bridge links the islands of Leyte and Samar.

The restoration work is expected to cost PHP84.7m ($1.51m), based on a report submitted by DPWH Region 8 director Allan S. Borromeo and secretary Manuel M. Bonoan.
This work will include tightening the high-tension bolts and painting of structural steel.
The repair work is being taken up to ensure the safety of motorists and other daily road users given that the bridge is nearly 50 years old.
Previously, the DPWH Bureau of Design and Bureau of Research and Standards conducted an assessment involving non-destructive testing (NDT) for detailed bridge conditions, corrosion inspection, and monitoring of bridge steel members.

DPWH Region 8 is implementing the rehabilitation work of the bridge.
The work is anticipated to finish by December this year.
