Swedish construction company Peab has secured a contract from Y-Säätiön M2-Kodit to build homes in Tampere, Finland.

As per the terms of the $12.5m (€11m) turnkey contract, Peab will build a five-storey high-rise structure featuring 95 apartments.

The apartment building will also have a courtyard as well as a community space, which includes space for remote work in the city borough Hervantajärvi in Tampere.

Peab said that the new structure will have an energy class A rating and will feature solar panels on the building roof in order to reduce its carbon footprint.

Construction works at the site are set to begin this month, with completion anticipated in June 2023.

The project order will be registered in the first quarter of this year.

Peab region manager Matti Joensuu said: “In Finland Peab began calculating the carbon footprint in our own projects two years ago and guarantee our buildings will have an energy class A rating.

“We’re therefore particularly pleased to realise this modern project that takes the environment into consideration.”

Last November, Peab received an $11.4m (€10m) contract from X-Group Asunnot Oy for constructing nine-storey high-rise building with 75 apartments in Ranta-Tampella in Tampere.

The project scope also includes the construction of a parking garage under the ground floor of the apartment building.
Construction works are set to begin in January this year and is expected to be completed in September 2023.

Peab said that it is an $11.4m (€10m) worth turnkey contract, and the order will be registered in the fourth quarter of 2021.
