Van Oord has commenced construction of around 2.4km quays and earth-retaining walls in the Princess Amalia Harbour.

Van Oord stated: “Together with our partners HOCHTIEF Netherlands and Ballast Nedam, we will work on the connection to the existing quay wall of APM Terminals and Rotterdam World Gateway B.V. in the coming period and by doing so, contribute to the growth of the Port of Rotterdam.”
This programme is set to boost annual throughput capacity in the Port of Rotterdam by four million standard containers (TEU).
This project in total features 1,825m of deep-sea quay, 160m of inland shipping quay and 360m of earth-retaining walls.
Excluding 725m, the complete harbour basin will be enclosed. The basin went into use in 2015.

By GlobalDataThe project also covers construction of a 160m waiting area for general use by inland shipping vessels.
By late 2022, the first 500m of quay wall construction is expected to be completed.
The final aspect of the project will be finished in not more than eighteen months later.
