North Lanarkshire Council has awarded planning consent to Barratt Homes West Scotland and Cala Homes (West) for high-quality and affordable residential development in Stepps, North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
In 2018, this site was granted planning permission in principle for a residential development of up to 200 homes and allotted for housing development in the North Lanarkshire Modified Proposed Local Development Plan.

Under this development project, Barratt and Cala will construct approximately 199 high-quality new homes, at the Gateside Farm site, near the M80 motorway, of which 30 homes will be classed as affordable.
An extensive range of both two bedroom-terraced houses, appropriate for smaller families, along with spacious detached five-bedroom villas will be constructed to complement the natural surroundings of the area.
This proposal also includes building a new village green with a play park and active travel routes.
Barratt Homes West Scotland managing director David Scott said: “Barratt has a long-standing partnership with North Lanarkshire Council for the delivery of affordable housing and as part of the proposals, we will build 30 new affordable homes providing local families in need with high-quality sustainable, energy efficient housing, and a more, settled, secure future.”

By GlobalDataAccording to an economic impact analysis done earlier this year, as commissioned by Barratt and Cala, this new development is expected to cost £31m towards construction and is also expected to garner an additional £34m of gross value added (GVA) during the course of its four-year construction phase.
This development project is expected to generate 63 direct construction jobs, which includes 4 apprenticeships. The project will also support around 84 jobs in future in the supply chain and wider domestic economy.
Cala Homes (West) managing director Jim McIntyre said: “Receiving the green light from North Lanarkshire Council is a very welcomed milestone, and signals an exciting step forward in our commitment to investment across the region. The planning consent comes at an important time for the wider economy and will make a significant contribution towards recovery from the pandemic through the creation of job opportunities.”
