Loughborough University has topped out the $10.8m (£9m) SportPark Pavilion 4 at the SportPark development on the campus.

Located on Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP), the 2,000m² four-storey development will provide sports organisations with environmentally future-proof accommodation that can be personalised to their requirements.

It is being built to Passivhaus Classic Accreditation to minimise operating expenses and CO₂ emissions, as well as maintain a thermally comfortable environment.

The facility will have a well-insulated building fabric for reducing heat loss and opening triple-glazed windows, heat pumps and solar shades to prevent overheating.

As part of the Getting Building Fund (GBF), Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership is delivering the new structure, which is scheduled for completion at the end of this year.

The new development will increase the total floor size of SportPark to 8,000m², enabling the further growth of a sports cluster and creating a Global Sports Hub.

It will have up to 400m² of office accommodation, offering flexible layouts to meet the needs of the organisations.

The new pavilion has been specifically designed to increase connectivity within the building and outside.

Loughborough University Sport associate pro-vice-chancellor Mike Caine said: “SportPark Pavilion 4 will provide the capacity to welcome yet more mission-driven organisations to the University, and to reinforce the East Midlands region’s potential as a global sports innovation hub, with Loughborough at its heart.”

“The SportPark expansion coincides with a growing number of innovation and technology-led sports businesses launching at, or relocating to, LUSEP, attracted to the collaborative environment and access to the University’s world-leading expertise in sports science, engineering, health and wellbeing, high-performance athlete base, and sports infrastructure.”
