NCC has signed an agreement with Svenska kraftnät to construct 70km of 400kV overhead power lines for the Horred-Breared project in Sweden.
The project will cover power lines between the Horred substation in Mark Municipality and the Breared substation in Halmstad Municipality.

The deal, valued at approximately Skr1bn ($100m), forms the first construction contract under the Västra Götaland business package.
The new line will follow the existing corridor, replacing infrastructure that is over 60 years old.
The older line, which will be dismantled as part of the works, is expected to reach around 70 years of operation by the time the project is completed.
According to project plans, the upgrade aims to maintain the security of electricity supply in south-west Sweden, as the coastal climate has accelerated the ageing process of the current equipment.
Planning, design and preliminary works on the Horred-Breared section began in 2025, with a groundbreaking event held in spring 2026. Following this, NCC began various time-critical activities.
With the latest contract signature, the project now moves into full-scale production, with completion scheduled for the first half of 2029.
NCC Infrastructure head Tomas Brannemo said: “NCC has in-depth energy transmission expertise and extensive experience in managing large and multifaceted infrastructure projects.
“The strategic partnering agreement with Svenska kraftnät will enable us to create economies of scale and ensure important knowledge transfer that will strengthen NCC and the implementation of future subprojects under the Västra Götaland business package.”
The renewed transmission infrastructure will be built as an overhead alternating current line, intended to reinforce the region’s electricity network.
Overhead lines were selected on technical and cost grounds, with underground cables only used in short segments where overhead construction is not feasible.
In August 2025, NCC was named by Svenska kraftnät in a bundled procurement to plan and build over 450km of power lines in Västra Götaland County. The larger programme includes extension and decommissioning of lines.
The Horred-Breared project represents the first phase of this wider agreement.
Earlier this month, NCC entered into a partnering agreement with the Swedish Fortifications Agency to construct a new artillery regiment base in Kristinehamn, Sweden.
