Skanska has launched the phased construction on the new Renton High School in Washington, US, delivering updated educational facilities while the existing school remains operational.
The redevelopment is funded by a $676m bond approved by voters in 2022, supporting construction and improvements projects across the district.

The new three-storey, 350,000ft² campus will be equipped to serve 1,600 students, with facilities for career and technical education, science, art, health services, common spaces and electives.
Renton is roughly 10 miles south-east of downtown Seattle.
Plans also include athletic enhancements, including a lighted baseball/softball field and a football/soccer practice field.
Crucially for local stakeholders, construction phases are structured to allow the ongoing use of the current academic spaces.
According to Skanska, most of the current high school, which opened in 1932 and has been expanded multiple times, will be demolished after the new facility is completed.
The original 1930s section and the IKEA Performing Arts Center will remain as part of the new campus.
The project team comprises regional players including BRIC Architecture, PCS Structural Solutions, AHBL Civil/Landscape, Metrix | CMTA for mechanical systems and GFT Electrical.

Originally opened in 1911 and rebuilt in the 1930s, Renton High School stands as the district’s oldest secondary facility.
The new high school is scheduled to open in autumn 2029.
