The project represents a revenue value of approximately A$150m ($106m) for CPB Contractors.
SYSTRA outlined its strategy to expand into adjacent markets with a focus on water management projects towards the end of 2025. This contract marks SYSTRA’s entry into Australia’s water sector.
SYSTRA Italy Business Development head Andrea Della Corte said: “Establishing SYSTRA in water management is fully in line with our strategy for growth in adjacent markets, with the ambition that these activities will represent 10% of our total revenue by 2030.
“We are also counting on the mobilisation of the entire Group to contribute to other types of projects.”
Orchard Hills water filtration plant was originally built in 1993, and sources water from Warragamba Dam.
The plant supplies drinking water to Penrith and Blue Mountains residents but faces challenges due to variable water quality linked to severe weather events or bushfires after droughts.
The upcoming works aim to ensure the continued quality of supply by delivering upgraded treatment capabilities.
Construction activities on the Reliability Upgrade are scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2026.
