Austrian construction firm PORR has secured a contract worth €150m ($174m) to construct the Kołbaskowo–Dołuje section of the Western Bypass of Szczecin (S6) expressway in north-west Poland.

The project will involve the development of vital infrastructure components, such as two interchanges at Będargowo and Dołuje, 18 engineering structures, including eight wildlife crossings, and a road maintenance depot located near the Siadło Górne junction.
The Kołbaskowo–Dołuje section will start with a connection to Phase II of the Przecław-Warzymice bypass along the DK13, a key artery in the region. Additionally, the Western Bypass will connect to the A6 motorway through an integrated road network.
PORR will also construct a bridge measuring 284m in length over the Szczecin-Stobno Szczecińskie-Lübeck railway line, which will be the longest structure along this part of the bypass. Work on the project will be completed in 41 months.
PORR Group CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said: “The S6 route is a major driver for the development of north-west Poland, while also improving road safety and traffic flow in the Szczecin metropolitan area.

By GlobalData“We look forward to working with the GDDKiA on this project and will deliver it with our usual high standards of quality and adherence to deadlines, while of course considering environmental compatibility.”
To date, PORR has completed over 600km of roadways for GDDKiA, including recent projects such as the 1.5km DK11 section between Janiska roundabout and Kołobrzeg East junction, opened in 2024, and the 10km S6 segment between Bożepole and Luzino, completed in 2022.
Ongoing works include bypasses at Wałcz, Szwecja, and Złocieniec.
In 2023, the company handed over the Świnoujście tunnel under the Świna Strait, providing the first permanent road link between Usedom and Wolin islands and replacing reliance on ferry services.
The tunnel was excavated using a tunnel boring machine and is regarded as significant both for Pomerania and Poland as a whole. In August 2025, PORR received two contracts from Polish railway infrastructure operator PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, valued at over €532m ($617.57m).
